Ive had such a heavy burden for this last month about giving. I notice so much lately about what America has become and the role of Christianity. It seems like I think more about changing the world than I do about myself, note the asthmatic problems (lol). I ve noticed that the american dollar the other day went down LOWER than it already has been in world trade, the Euro is worth 1.24 of our money, thats actually an old statistic it could be more. On Black Friday, Americans (including myself) spent over 300. dollars on average, bringing the total amount of money spent up over 300 million dollars. Richard Roberts of ORU embezzling 70 million dollars of university dollars on personnel expenses and then claiming God told him to resign. I drive by many churches today that have HUGE buildings and amazing advertisement. I went to Church of the Harvest the other day and listened to Nancy Pankratz on how churches shouldn't have to beg people to come to volunteer or how the church shouldn't need advertisement, but does Harvest live up to that?
What happened to us? As Americans? As Christians? How can we say we have poor people in our country when even the poorest household has a colored television? Bring those poor people to another country, and they got it made. Im worried that are we failing as a society. Im afraid that Our Christianity, american christianity, is failing. America doesn't need another hero, we have plenty already, look at CNN, Fox News, MTV, Myspace. Theres always some type of Hero coming up. We dont need another Charity or Foundation, Believe this when I say it, we have at least 2 organizations per issue in the world. Christianity doesn't need another "revolution", how many reformists have come in to a national spotlight? Joel Osteen, Rod Parsley, Ron Luce (Aquire the Fire), Rob Bell (Mars Hill)... and how many have succeeded? and if they did, how long did the solution last?..... we just need to start over.
A revolution is not started by a person or a "hero", but a team of people. We've lost that somewhere in translation. Change your mindset and YOU wont change the world, but you'll at least make it worth your while. Just a few thoughts ive had rolling around.
